Ever wondered if it is really possible for almost 8 lakh people to live over an area of 2.5 sq kilometers? Yes, it was really hard for me to believe that, this is a reality . Asia's largest slum in Mumbai, Dharavi slum is the densely populated slum. During this pandemic period, is it really possible for them to maintain social distancing? On learning their lifestyle, I found it practically very difficult to maintain social distancing. They share common bathrooms.People live in shanties and dilapidated buildings with narrow lanes and open sewer.Personal and public hygiene is not their primary concern. Its a densely populated area where people are in very close contact to each other .Even if a few are affected, it would spread affecting huge mass over a very short period.Death rate would steadily increase among senior citizens and it would be a tough job to handle the pandemic spread.
